March 1st is Self-Harm Awareness day.
Self-Harm isn't something that should be joked about or made fun of. It is a very serious issue that is becoming more and more common and yet remains ignored.
Most people do not understand how difficult it can be for someone going through this to just get through the day. It is not attention seeking behaviour. It is a last resort act to try to rid themselves of pain.
Before you speak, or call someone any unkind name, THINK before doing so.
You do not know anyone's story or what they may be going through. Some of your closest friends or family members may be struggling with self-harm.
On average 1 in 6 teenagers struggle with this problem in the U.S.
If you know anyone going through this, let them know that they are loved, that they are not alone, and that they are important.
Be kind. You don't know what kind of war may be going on inside someone's head.
